BSc Hons, M.A in Social Work, CQSW

Mrs Kulbir Kandola qualified in 1993 as a social worker with an MA/CQSW. Kulbir has extensive, wide ranging experience in the care sector, firstly as a Social Worker, then in registering and inspecting care homes as well as contracting adult services in the independent care sector on behalf of Nottinghamshire Social Services.

Kulbir’s commitment and devotion to care then led her to purchase her own nursing home in 1996 and has built up a highly reputable nursing home care business in the Midlands with emphasis on highest quality of care. Her priority has always been to offer high levels of personal care in a homely, luxurious environment. Kulbir takes a close interest in the management of all her nursing homes to ensure that residents remain the number 1 priority at all times and that they are well looked after by friendly, genuinely caring staff.

Home Manager

Tracey Burke - RGN - RMA

My name is Tracey. I am a qualified nurse with more than 30 years’ experience working in both the acute sector and care home sector.

I have worked at The Heathers since 1998, I have worked in the Home as a Nurse, the Deputy Manager and The Manager. I have played a key role in improving the quality of care at the Home, we have achieved all of our actions from the Local Authority and have maintained a 5-Star Environmental Health rating. In the future we shall be working towards Investors in People and the Gold Standard Framework accreditation. These are national standards to demonstrate robust staff management and delivering the best end of life care to our residents.

I know that choosing a care home for a loved one can be a daunting, anxious time for any family and I’d like to reassure you that my staff and I are always here to help you as much as possible in making that transition as seamless and stress-free both for you and your loved ones. We are very proud of the high standard of personal, loving care we provide to all our residents, and this is reflected in the many positive comments we receive from residents’ families and friends. My door is always open, and I very much look forward to welcoming you to The Heathers soon.

The Home Manager is supported by a Deputy Manager. There is a full time Training Manager who delivers an extensive training programme to all staff.

The management team is supported by an Office Manager and an Accounts Manager. The Manager can be contacted by emailing office@theheathersnursinghome.co.uk.

“My mother was a resident at The Heathers for two years until she passed away in January 2021. During that time, she was treated with care and retained her dignity until the very end."

Care Team

We have a team of highly qualified, experienced, and compassionate nursing staff, care team leaders, and care assistants. Our staff are chosen for their caring attitudes and compassion, and they go the ‘extra mile’ for their residents.

Residents and relatives feedback repeatedly praise staff for their passion and commitment to their residents. All care staff are required to complete the Care Certificate as a minimum standard. The Care Certificate is an agreed set of a minimum of 15 standards that sets out the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of the role of a Carer.

The care team is highly trained and qualified to provide dementia and end of life care.

Hospitality Services

We have a team of 4 staff in the catering department led by the Head Chef. The Head Housekeeper manages a team of housekeepers and laundry staff. We have 2 Maintenance Managers who ensure the accommodation is maintained to a high standard. All staff ensure high standards of service are always provided to our residents.

We have two activities coordinators who organise activities in line with the requirements of the residents.

Staff are regularly supervised on duty, and we provide good staffing levels to ensure our high standards of care are maintained. Each member of staff has a regular formal meeting with a manager to review their performance and to consider any ideas they have.

All staff receive an annual appraisal with the Home Manager. The home is working towards the Investors in People accreditation which is a national standard measuring the quality of supervision and management of staff. The Investors in People accreditation will take place in April 2022 and will be reviewed every three years to ensure the home is compliant with the IIP Standard.

We provide regular training to maintain and improve standards, and to ensure staff skills and knowledge are kept up to date. New staff complete a comprehensive induction course. Most of the training is delivered by our Training Manager and external training is provided where needed. The nurses attend regular clinical updates.

"All the staff are friendly to us and my mum when we visit. She always says they look after her well. She likes the food and drinks and it's always clean. They do nice activities for special events like VE Day. Overall I'm pleased with the care my mum receives."
